Restart a Heart Day is an event that helps to raise awareness about CPR and AEDs (defibrillators) in the community. The day is about promoting ‘Call, Push, Shock’ to improve cardiac arrest survival rates.

Shock using a defibrillator (also known as an AED)

To use a defibrillator, you simply turn it on and listen to the instructions – it talks you through what to do in steps and once it has been applied, it operates without your assistance. It is safe and easy to use – you can’t hurt someone by using a defibrillator and it wont apply shock if a heart is beating. If you don’t know how to do CPR, they will talk you through it on the 000 call.

To get involved in Restart a Heart Day as an individual, you can find out where the nearest Restart a Heart Day event is being held and go along to learn about CPR or get a refresher on how to perform CPR. You can also hold your own event or get your local school or work involved. You can help promote Restart a Heart Day by adding the ‘Restart a Heart Day’ filter to your profile picture on Facebook.
