Importance Of Hydration Testing

Monitoring a person’s urine for hydration status is crucial due to the potential danger of dehydration, whether it’s caused by exertion, environmental factors, or health issues. The Urinsafe Hydration Test Strips can help individuals maintain a healthy state of hydration by providing feedback on their fluid intake.

Technical Information

Specific Gravity: The Specific Gravity test relies on dyes that change colour based on the density of dissolved substances in a liquid, which is known as specific gravity. This test shows a range of colours, starting with blue for dilute urine, blue-green for medium concentrations, and yellow-green for high concentrations.

pH: The pH test uses a combination of two dyes that change colour with the pH level of the urine. These dyes show easily recognisable colours in the pH range of 5.0 to 8.0, starting with orange at 5.0, then progressing to yellow, green-yellow, blue-green, and finally blue at 8.0. Generally speaking, urine pH in healthy people is usually between 5.5 and 7.0.

How To Collect And Perform A Urine Test

  • Urine can be collected in a cup or directly on the test strip.
  • If using a cup, make sure it is clean and dry. Avoid soap as it can affect the results.
  • Test the urine immediately to ensure accuracy.
  • Use in-date test strips for the most accurate results.
  • Dip the strip into the urine for 1-2 seconds or pass it through the urine stream.
  • Remove the strip from the sample after 1-2 seconds and wipe off excess liquid.
  • Wait 30-60 seconds for the colours to develop and compare to the pH colour chart on the bottle.

How To Read Hydration Test Results

Compare the developed test strip to the chart on the bottle. Find the number on the chart that is closest in colour to the test strip. If the test strip is halfway between two colours, the result is the average of the two numbers on the chart.
